Every trip out here over the past few years, we’ve driven past this building on the way to get coffee and a cinnamon swirl at Mela’s and I’ve thought “I should shoot that.” I finally got around to it on this trip. Standing in the middle of the street, I had to dodge a few oncoming cars to do it, but I got the shot that was in my head. I don’t know why it appeals to me. Maybe I just like buildings that have some character. It definitely has a Michigan manufacturing vibe, so it could be that. Or maybe I can relate to having a strong foundation but an exterior that could use a little work. Either way, old barns, ramshackle homes, abandoned factories – bring ’em on. I’ll shoot them all.
