My round-the-world trip from March 2012 to March 2013. Over the course of that year, I visited 25 countries and at least 70 cities. It was a pretty good year. How did I plan something like that? Short answer – I didn’t. The sheer weight of logistical detail made my head hurt. Focusing on the small stuff for too long just stressed me out and resulted in nothing getting done – “paralysis by analysis” – not the way I wanted to spend my time. I did have a round-the-word ticket (an excellent use of the Delta SkyMiles I had accumulated over the years) and I had a loose framework in place, knowing how long I wanted to spend in each region (e.g. Mexico, Europe, etc). Other than that, I just made it up as I went along. It may not be for everyone, but it worked for me, and it was a helluva ride. Follow the link if you are interested in the details. I started at the green marker (Seattle, WA). Black lines signify air travel, blue for buses/cars/scooters, red for trains and green for boats. Seeing this shows not only where I’ve been, but also how much is still left to see. I guess what I’m saying is, to be continued…
